Mother's Prayer

I was asked to write a peace song for a peace project and this was one of the 3 I delivered in a week. Sung from the perspectives of several mothers in different stages of parenthood. -N.

Vs. 1:
Hear this mother’s prayer
Lord it’s a prayer for peace
Please keep my babies
Safe from harm
Protect their legs
Their face their arms
And let them grow up
To make this world a better place
And live in peace

Vs. 2:
Hear this mother’s prayer
Lord it’s a prayer for peace
My kids were told to do their part
I prayer dear Lord with all my heart
Watch over them,
And bring them home safely to me
So we can live in peace

Vs. 3:
Hear this mother’s prayer
Lord it’s a prayer for peace
My son’s daughter died today
‘Cause shrapnel killed her
As she played
Please help to mend their broken hearts
And find a way
To make their peace

Vs. 4:
Hear this mother’s prayer
Lord it’s a prayer for peace
Your children are waging war
They kill each other Rich and poor
God I can’t fathom,
What all this fighting’s for

They’re dropping bombs
Polluting me
And now my waters don’t run clean
I can't sustain them
If they don’t take care of me
And live in peace
